OHS Technology Classes See Success With New Technology

By Logan Gill, OHS Torch Reporter

The 2015-2016 OHS technology classes are learning new, exciting material with the new computers and applications purchased over the summer; the most exciting thing is the new Apple Mac lab.

Mr. Klokkenga has been teaching in the technology department of OHS for the past 3 years.  They have been using the same old out dated technology since he first started.

“The new Macs now have a window side so we can switch between operating systems. We also have CS6 instead of CS3,”said Mr. Klokkenga.

There have been several different glitches and minor problems, but overall the new Macs are a huge improvement from last year.  The minor problems are slowly disappearing.

Not only did the Macs arrive, but a new 3D printer is new as well.  It will mainly be used in the  game design class and possibly other classes in the future.

Mr. Klokkenga said, “The 3D printer is really fun to use and it’s simple how it works.”  For those who don’t know,  3D printing is a process for making a physical object from a three-dimensional digital model, typically by laying down many successive thin layers of a material.

In the computers class, students get to become Microsoft certified, meaning they have a certificate showing that they know all about the Microsoft Office applications.  The class went from being to a term class to a full semester class.

Collin Breedwell, a junior enrolled in 4th block communication technology said, “Despite all the minor problems the class is really fun and enjoyable.  All the work is done on computer so you don’t really need to bring anything and the instructions are very thorough.  The class is fun if you want to edit audio and visuals.  I recommend taking this class.”
