OHS Foods One Simmers Into a Great Year

By Lainey Whitaker. OHS Torch Reporter
OHS Foods I classes with 23 students in each of its 2 sections taught by Ms. Liz Kirby and is in full swing with units on safety sanitation, using equipment and preparing snacks.
OHS Foods class had to learn the proper way to use the equipment and how to be safe in the kitchen.
They go through a whole day of learning how to use the 3 main knives.
After that they have a test which they have to pass to earn an A in order to start cooking. Most students usually pass it on the first try and are ready to cook.
According to Blake Dehn, “I am really looking forward to cooking more new food and getting to grill out the week of homecoming.”
Kitchen groups are made of four and that is who students will be with for the whole semester. Four seniors Blake Dehn, Gannon Springer, Nick Barclay and Clay Bachman are all together in a kitchen together, naming their kitchen group Sons of Peaches.
According to Ms. Liz Kirby, “I really enjoy the kids they are really a great group, fun mix.” It’s great to have a great class for you can do a lot of different things with them.
There are many events and field trips that are coming up soon and throughout the whole semester. They will usually have at least one big field trip and have many other events throughout.
The field trip will either be going to watch a hog get butchered or going to a farm. They will also be hosting a booth at the homecoming carnival with apple cider floats and pulled pork.
