What is Going on in P.E.?

By Clayton Willis OHS Torch Reporter,
When people think of the physical education class at Olympia, they think of the students running laps in circles; however this semester has revised idea with increased participation of students.
OHS senior Justin Slager said, “Every time we play volleyball, there is always a full team. The amount of people playing is really great. It makes P.E. so much more entertaining.”
Lately the classes have been having open activities which lets the students do what they want. Without having a set activity, more students seem to be staying active and enjoying P.E.
The open activities in P.E. right now are: volleyball, basketball, pickleball, ping pong, and swimming. Sometimes students can go into the weight room and lift.
The classes take turns swimming with one class each day, usually on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. The classes do this so the pool isn’t overcrowded.
P.E. teacher Gerry Thornton said, “I don’t care what we do, just as long as the kids stay active. This is one of the best semesters I have ever seen for participation and I plan to keep it that way.”

Soon the P.E. class will take to the track and start some new activities. Once they are outside, students will partake in bags, washers, horseshoes, and Ultimate Frisbee. However, if it is too windy, they can play ultimate football instead of Ultimate Frisbee.

“The amount of participation is great, I hope this continues into next year as well”, stated sophomore Trey Wilson.
