Olympia indoor soccer team competes in offseason

By Jesse Furman
The Olympia indoor soccer team took a hard defeat this past Sunday against Tremont  with the final score 1-4; this sets the record to one win and one loss for this season.
Since the game started Olympia could not get anything going for them in either half. The defense was playing hard with holding Tremont only to four goals and not letting them get too far ahead.  Defense consisted of two defenders and a a midfielder that drops back to assist the the defenders.
Andres Alberts,2016  forward on the team said, “this team played really rough and we got fouls called on us for no reason. we just couldn’t get the ball to go in the goal and they were just handling the ball better than us.”
Indoor soccer consists of two 20 minute halves with a running clock and a 2 minute halftime. The games are on Sunday night and there is not practice throughout the week.
Johann Meyer, 2016 forward on the team, said, “ It made me frustrated how the refs would not call anything on them and they were playing dirty. Hopefully we have a different ref this sunday.”
There is only one referee at the game. With only one ref on the field at a time, it can be hard to see everything that goes on on the field due to its size.
Tristan Davis, 2016 midfielder on the team said, “ I had to drop back and play defense most of the night because they had some strong forwards. I hope the next week we have all of our players here so we don’t have to fill those positions with other people.”

Olympia takes on Metamora next Sunday which will be the third game of the season and marks the halfway point of this season. Metamora has a record of 0-2  this season and is playing with exactly 7 people so they will not have any subs.
