By: Caleb Yeazle, OHS Torch reporter
Olympia students involved in the Group interp zoom past sectionals and make it to the State tournament; the group placed 3rd in sectionals and 7th in their section at state.
The group members included Ethan Schopp, Collin Schopp, Lauren Horner, Lauren Hostetter, Evie Roberts, David Bell, Dylan Maris, Matthew Althoff, Brian Henderson, Walker Spaulding, Mason Rousey, Kristin Schuette, Bailey Stockhecke, Macy Walczer, and Delia Kerr-Denhart.
After they placed 3rd in sectionals the group earned their way into the state finals. The students left Thursday, April 7, heading to UIS to compete in the GI state finals.
The group performed the story called the Yellow Boat and it is about a boy that contracted the deadly disease AIDS through a blood transfusion, but even in death this boy finds a way to bring hope, faith, and love into his family.
Ethan Schopp, OHS Freshman, said, “Watching other groups GI’s because they were really good! Also performing was really fun too!”
Mr. Jodlowski, OHS Principal and GI Director, said, “I loved watching the students focus on what they were trying to accomplish. It takes a lot of focus and hard work to do compete in GI. You have to focus for not only the 20 minutes they perform but the hours before to prepare to make the performance the best it can be.”
A couple of the students in this group had already competed in a State competition this year. These students include Collin Schopp placing second in the state, David Bell, and Ethan Schopp.

Ethan Schopp, OHS Freshman, said, “I thought it was really awesome to be able to compete in the State twice as a freshman.”
