2016-17 Olympia FFA Officers Announced

By Ellie Schmidgall
On Monday, April 4, nine Olympia FFA members interviewed for a position on the officer team. On Tuesday, April 5th, the list of 2016-17 officers were posted outside of Mr. Hoffman’s room.
In previous years, there have only been seven officers selected. However, this year there were nine qualified applicants and the decision was made to expand the officer team.
Next year’s president is Ashley Miller. Nate Weihmeir, Brock Gottschalk, and Claire Springer are all vice presidents with Lane Miller as sentinel, Molly Schemp as reporter, Karmen Gleuck as secretary, Josh Kindred as treasurer, and Anna Davis as historian.
Ashley Miller, junior, has been an FFA member for three years. She served as sentinel this year and was involved in many activities. In addition to FFA, Ashley shows cattle and plays softball for the school and Oly Fire.
Ashley said, “I am so excited and I have big shoes to fill. Ellie did a great job and have learned a lot from her. I hope to get more people involved and experiencing FFA.”
FFA officers work hard all year to make sure Olympia’s chapter is successful. Hours are spent working together to organize events, plan activities, and volunteering in the Olympia District. Each position plays an important role.
Claire Springer, sophomore, said, “I’m really excited to come up with fun activities for people to participate in. I wanted to be an officer so I could set a good example for my peers.”

All the incoming officers are excited to begin working together. It is a big responsibility being an officer and requires a lot of time and hard work. Overall, it is a great experience and helps teach leadership skills.
